This book is about Ferno the Fire Dragon who is under an evil spell. He has been burning the crops, making the rivers all dried up and destroying Avantia. Tom is a boy who is chosen to go on a quest to free Ferno.  Along the way he meets a girl called Elenna who comes with him on his journey.  Tom succeeds on his quest to free Ferno by unlocking the magic collar from around his neck.  Ferno gives Tom a dragon scale and it will protect him from fire.
